The gearbox is one of the most important elements of every car. Let's check what gearboxes are on board cars of popular Korean brands: Hyundai and KIa.
Hyundai and KIA cars are currently very popular all over the world, including in Poland. The first of these manufacturers started its operations in 1947, as... a construction company. Twenty years later, an automotive company was established, and in 2000, Hyundai Motor Group was separated. In turn, KIA grew out of a company that initially manufactured bicycle parts, and later bicycles and motorcycles, which entered the automotive market in the 1970s. In the late 1990s, in order to save its financial situation, KIA started cooperation with Hyundai, which resulted in the dynamic development of both manufacturers.
Individual Hyundai and KIA models are equipped with manual, five- or six-speed gearboxes. Newer models are dominated by six-speed gearboxes. Cars of these brands with DCT dual-clutch automatic gearboxes are also popular. They most often have seven gears, although older Kia models also have four-speed automatics. In turn, the current generation of the Hyundai Elantra - in the version offered in Poland - can be equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable CVT automatic.
Hyundai and KIA gearboxes are praised for their durability and reliability. Access to gearbox parts is easy, and prices are not excessive. Manual gearboxes have gained the sympathy of drivers for their pleasant, precise shift lever operation, while DCT automatics enjoy a reputation for working efficiently.
