The DQ381 DSG gearbox is a modern, 7-speed double-clutch transmission manufactured by Volkswagen AG. The DSG DQ381 gearbox (also known as 0GC) is the successor to the DSG DQ380 gearbox. The DQ381 DSG gearbox is used in many vehicles with the MQB platform. The DQ381 has an all-wheel drive variant - designated DQ381-7A and a front-drive variant designated as DQ381-7F.
DQ381 is a DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) gearbox, which means it has two clutches. To put it simply, the DSG gearbox consists of two separate gearboxes. One gearbox supports even gears and the other - odd gears. Each gearbox has its own clutch, therefore the DSG gearbox is a dual-clutch gearbox. This design allows for faster and more effective gear shifting, which translates into smooth driving and dynamic acceleration. This gearbox is designed for higher torques, making it ideal for vehicles with higher power engines.
